Assassination of CICDA aid workers in Haquira
The PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered three CICDA aid workers (two French and one Peruvian) and two other people in Haquira, Cotabambas, Apurimac, as part of its strategy of attacking international cooperation NGOs.
On December 6, 1988, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered three aid workers from the International Cooperation Center for Agricultural Development (CICDA) in the district of Haquira, province of Cotabambas, Apurimac. The victims were two French aid workers and a Peruvian, as well as two other people. This attack was part of the PCP-SL's strategy of targeting international cooperation NGOs operating in the area. The attack took place in a context of expanding violence in Apurimac, where counter-subversive forces were beginning to establish counter-subversive bases and form Self-Defense Committees.
