PCP-SL Attacks on Mining Facilities in Peru
In December 1988, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) carried out a series of attacks on mining facilities in Peru. These attacks included the dynamiting of cablecar towers, compressor houses, and electrical infrastructure, resulting in significant financial losses and disruption of mining operations. The violence was part of a broader campaign by the PCP-SL to exert influence over mining regions and disrupt economic activities.
A finales de 1988, el PCP-SL asesinó a Alejandro Patiño y Fidencio Coronel, dirigentes sindicales de Morococha y La Oroya respectivamente, quienes se oponían a las huelgas convocadas por la organización terrorista. Posteriormente, el PCP-SL ejecutó una serie de atentados contra instalaciones de Centromín Perú: el 25 de diciembre dinamitaron tres torres del cablecarril de tungsteno en San Cristóbal, y el 26 de diciembre un grupo armado destruyó la casa de compresoras y transformadores en Morococha, causando daños por 3,965,000 dólares e interrumpiendo la extracción de cobre, plomo, zinc y plata.
