Murder of Alejandro Patiño Flores

Mining leader Alejandro Patiño Flores was killed by a bullet to the head in Morococha on October 17, 1988, allegedly by Shining Path members. Patiño had opposed the national mining strike.

On October 17, 1988, mining leader Alejandro Patiño Flores was shot in the head and killed in Morococha. The assassination was attributed to alleged Shining Path members of the PCP-SL. Patiño Flores had opposed the national mining strike, as had Fidencio Coronel in La Oroya, who was also murdered the following day. This assassination occurred in the context of an indefinite national strike of mining and metallurgical workers that began that same day.
