Murder of 15 villagers in Puyhuán

A subversive column of the PCP-SL killed 15 villagers in Puyhuán, Angaraes, in October 1988, as part of the reactivation of violent actions after the withdrawal of the military base from the area.

In October 1988, a subversive column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso entered the town of Puyhuán and killed 15 villagers. This attack occurred after two years of relative tranquility in the area, when the Shining Path restarted their actions in the province of Angaraes, taking advantage of the withdrawal of the Santo Tomás de Pata Military Base. The event occurred in the same period in which another Shining Path column, disguised as military personnel, had murdered 11 peasants in the Cuticsa area in June of the same year.
