Ambush in Chonta

PCP-Sendero Luminoso ambush against an Army patrol in Chonta, Laria, which caused the death of an officer and six soldiers, with fourteen wounded. It was part of the 1988 Shining Path offensive in Huancavelica.

In September 1988, PCP-Sendero Luminoso militants ambushed an army patrol in the town of Chonta, in Laria, Huancavelica province. The attack resulted in the death of one officer and six soldiers, while fourteen other military personnel were wounded. This ambush was part of the 1988 Shining Path offensive, when the PCP-SL had managed to recompose and reorganize its forces, recovering the military initiative in the last phase of the "Great Plan to Develop Support Bases". The attack in Chonta was one of several significant attacks carried out by the PCP-SL in Huancavelica during 1988, which also included ambushes in Lachocc and attacks on police installations in the city of Huancavelica.
