Validity of the Convention against Torture in Peru

Convention against Torture enters into force for Peru

On August 6, 1988, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment entered into force for Peru. This entry into force established international obligations for the Peruvian State regarding the prevention and punishment of torture, and subsequently led to the incorporation of the crime of torture in the 1991 Penal Code.
