Detention and torture of villager in Cruz Pata by the military

Military torture villagers in Cruz Pata in retaliation for Shining Path ambush

On July 25, 1988, Shining Path ambushed a military patrol at the Abancay Base, resulting in the death and wounding of several military personnel. The following day, several soldiers entered the community of Cruz Pata and detained the husband of a witness. They began to beat him and brought several people from the surrounding area to a garden and put them all in a line and began to walk over them, hanging them with ropes and putting their heads in a bucket full of water. They beat them brutally accusing them of being terrorists and responsible for the attack.
