Murder of Francisca Quispe by police officers in Morococha

During a national mining strike in Morococha, a police officer shot Francisca Quispe, the wife of a mine worker known for her leadership in demonstrations, at point blank range. After the murder, the police accused the demonstrators of being subversives and transferred the body and detainees to the Marcavalle military base.

On July 21, 1988, during a national strike in which the great majority of the mineworkers who blocked the central highway participated, there was a confrontation between members of the National Police and a small group of mothers who had joined the strike. The confrontation escalated when an excited police officer fired at point blank range at Mrs. Francisca Quispe. After the murder, the police accused some demonstrators of being subversives, who, together with the corpse, were taken to the Marcavalle military base. Francisca Quispe was the wife of a worker of the mining company Austria Duvaz and was characterized by her courage and leadership in the marches and demonstrations.
