Murder of student Walter Huayllani

The student and leader of the Communist Party of the UNSAAC, Walter Huayllani, was assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso on July 7, 1988 in Cuzco, as part of the struggle for political control of the university.

Walter Huayllani, a student and leader of the Communist Party of the San Antonio Abad del Cuzco National University (UNSAAC), was assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. This crime took place in the context of the struggle for political control of the university, where various subversive forces were trying to control the student unions. The assassination occurred just two days after the murder of another student, Magnolia Zuñiga, also in Cuzco. These selective assassinations were part of the PCP-SL's strategy of eliminating student leaders of rival political organizations, particularly the Peruvian Communist Party.
