Kidnapping of businessman Héctor Jerí García by MRTA

MRTA kidnaps General Héctor Jerí keeping him in inhumane conditions for 108 days

Retired FAP General and general manager of Capsa, Héctor Jerí García, was kidnapped around 8:00 a.m. when he arrived at the factory on República de Panamá Avenue, Balconcillo. Several MRTA members armed with revolvers, machine guns and grenades got out of two vehicles, broke the window of his car and pushed him out. Striking workers tried to defend him but the kidnappers fired into the air. He was taken to a town jail where he remained in deplorable conditions: without bathing, he lost 8 fingernails, hair, 22 kilos of weight, scabies, fungus and herpes. The MRTA demanded food distribution, publication of a communiqué and money. He was released after 108 days when an MRTA proclamation was broadcast.
