Murder of student Magnolia Zuñiga

Magnolia Zuñiga, a nursing student, was murdered on July 2, 1988 in Cuzco, in the context of the political violence affecting the region and particularly the university community.

On July 2, 1988, nursing student Magnolia Zuñiga was murdered in the city of Cuzco. This crime occurred in the context of the escalation of violence by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the region, during a period in which the subversive group was intensifying its actions against various sectors of the civilian population. The murder took place just five days before the assassination of another student and leader of the Communist Party of the UNSAAC, Walter Huayllani, evidencing the climate of terror that prevailed in the University and the city of Cuzco during that period.
