On June 27, 1988, the oral trial against Osmán Morote Barrionuevo, who had been captured on June 12 of that year by the DIRCOTE in Lima, began in a public hearing. Morote was considered the number two in the hierarchy of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL). His capture represented a significant blow against the command structure of the subversive organization.
