Pampa Coris Massacre

Massacre perpetrated by members of the Peruvian Army and ronderos in Pampa Coris on June 24, 1988, where single women and widows were sexually violated before being executed, after first killing the men of the community.

The Pampa Coris massacre was perpetrated on June 24, 1988 by members of the Peruvian Army and ronderos. During this military incursion, there was a pattern of behavior involving the rape of women prior to execution. The commandos executed the men first to prevent them from screaming or rebelling against the rape of the women. During the night, soldiers would take unmarried women and widows from the church, beat them because they did not accede to their sexual demands, and then rape them.
