Llamapsillon community members organize self-defense patrols
The Llamapsillon community members organized a self-defense patrol that was recognized by the Armed Forces on June 24, 1988 in Chaquicocha. This organization emerged as a preventive response to possible PCP-SL reprisals similar to those that occurred in Chongos Alto.
Faced with the possibility of a similar event to that of Chongos Alto, where the PCP-SL had organized a Popular Committee and later carried out a massacre on April 12, 1989, the Llamapsillón community members decided to organize a self-defense patrol. This round was officially recognized by the Armed Forces in the town of Chaquicocha on June 24, 1988. The organization of this self-defense patrol was part of a broader process of peasant resistance against the presence and actions of the PCP-SL in the Canipaco area. This military recognition of the ronda preceded the formation of other similar organizations in the region.
