Arrest of Osman Morote Barrionuevo

On June 11, 1988, Osmán Morote Barrionuevo, leader of the PCP-SL, was arrested in a raid in Lima. Weeks later, his defense lawyer Manuel Febres was murdered.

Osmán Morote Barrionuevo, leader of the PCP-SL (Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path), was arrested in a raid carried out by the forces of law and order. This capture represented a significant blow to the leadership of the Shining Path at a time when the subversive group was intensifying its actions in Metropolitan Lima. Subsequently, on July 28, 1988, the lawyer Manuel Febres, who acted as Osmán Morote's defense attorney, was murdered in what is presumed to be a reprisal related to the case.
