This murder occurred in the context of the expansion of PCP-SL threats in the district of San José de Quero, in Alto Cunas, where the subversive group had been forcing authorities to resign from their posts since 1987. The event took place a few weeks after the first murder registered in Bajo Cunas on May 14, 1988, when the Shining Pathists victimized the employee of an auditing company in the Colca Production Unit of the SAIS 'Heroínas Toledo'.
