Capture of Osman Morote and other regional cadres of the PCP-SL

Capture in Lima of Osman Morote, head of the Northern Regional Committee of the PCP-SL, together with other regional cadres in June 1988. This was one of the most important blows against the Shining Path structure in the northern region of the country.

Osman Morote, member of the Central Committee of the PCP-SL and head of the Northern Regional Committee, was captured in Lima in June 1988 along with other regional cadres. The capture took place shortly before a meeting called by the national leadership of the subversive organization. Morote had presented himself in the region as a street merchant selling condiments, but in reality he was directing PCP-SL operations in the northern provinces. After his capture, it was discovered that he had in his possession the sketch of Huamachuco and the names of key people in the area. This was considered one of the most important blows received by the PCP-SL in that period, although the organization continued its violent actions in the region.
