On May 14, 1988, a massacre took place in Cayara, Ayacucho, perpetrated by the Peruvian Army. During the military incursion 25 men were killed. Testimonies collected by the CVR indicate that during the massacre sexual violations were committed against women. One woman who was raped during these events managed to survive and later testified about what happened.
