SAIS Picotani Incursion
On May 5, 1988, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the SAIS Picotani in Crucero, Sandia, Puno, killing 6 civil guards and the justice of the peace. Peasant leader Porfirio Suni Quispe was later arrested and tortured, accused of participating in the attack.
On May 5, 1988, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an armed raid on the SAIS Picotani, located in Crucero, province of Sandia, department of Puno. During the attack, the subversives killed 6 civilian guards and the local justice of the peace. As a consequence of this attack, the teacher and peasant leader Porfirio Suni Quispe was arrested and tortured, accused of participating in the attack. This event was part of the campaign of violence that the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out in the high provinces of Puno during 1988.
