Massacre in the community of Aranhuay

PCP-SL massacred 21 Aranhuay community members using military uniforms as a ruse.

A large group of PCP-SL members entered the community of Aranhuay using military fatigues as a ruse. They summoned the villagers to an assembly in the main square. Once assembled, they revealed their identity, divided the villagers into groups, forced them to perform strenuous physical exercises, beat and kicked them repeatedly. Finally, they formed them into rows and killed them with gunshots, finishing off those who were not killed with bladed weapons. At least 21 people were killed. Before retreating, they looted and set fire to homes. The massacre was in retaliation for the formation of a self-defense committee.
