In April 1988, a group of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso that was confused among striking workers assassinated the manager of the Hilados S.A. factory. The murder occurred in the context of a labor conflict in the company. Days after the crime, on April 12, El Diario, spokesman of the PCP-SL, pointed out the correctness of the action, publicly vindicating the assassination. This was part of a PCP-SL strategy of assassinating officials as a way of resolving labor conflicts in the factories.
