Murder of Army sergeant in Huancayo

An Army sergeant was killed by the PCP-SL in the city of Huancayo on January 7, 1988, as part of the "selective annihilations" against members of the forces of law and order that intensified during that period.

On January 7, 1988, an Army sergeant was murdered in the city of Huancayo. This assassination was part of a series of "selective annihilations" that increased since January 14, 1987, when a PCP-SL contingent assassinated an Army commander in the same city. Selective assassinations against members of law enforcement, public officials and local authorities intensified during this period as part of the PCP-SL strategy. This event occurred in the context of an escalation of violence in the Mantaro Valley, which lasted from 1987 to 1992, a period in which approximately 80% of the deaths and disappearances of the entire cycle of violence in the area were concentrated.
