Control of the PCP-SL over the Comensales Committee in 1988

Since 1988, the PCP-SL gained control of the Comité Lucha de Comensales, displacing Patria Roja and what was left of the FEUL. Previously, after the prison massacre in 1986, the PCP-SL began a strong symbolic presence in the UNE, installing a series of murals with themes and slogans alluding to the armed struggle. This political advance became a reality in 1988, when the SL succeeded in expelling the VER-ML from university housing. On repeated occasions, the PCP-SL used physical violence and a campaign of harassment and threats to expel its opponents.
