During this period of Shining Path activity in the area, 9 military personnel and 2 civilians who were part of an army support group were killed by Shining Path members in the town of Lachocc. This event occurred in the context of the expansion of the PCP-SL in the Cunas area and their systematic attacks against the infrastructure and local authorities.
