Hiking approach in Morococha
In the first months of 1988, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso made peaceful and subtle approaches to the inhabitants of Morococha, visiting stores and homes to recruit supporters without showing violence or weapons. This friendly approach strategy preceded the violent acts that would begin months later in the mining area.
In the first months of 1988, members of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso approached the inhabitants of Morococha in a friendly and non-violent manner, seeking to recruit them as supporters of their organization. The Shining Path members visited stores and homes, such as that of one family where they tried to convince the father in a calm manner, without displaying weapons or acting in a threatening way. This subtle approach contrasted with the violent actions that the PCP-SL would later initiate in the area, beginning with the 'ajusticiamientos' (executions) on April 16 of that same year. This strategy of peaceful approach was part of their political work to gain sympathizers in the mining center before initiating armed actions.
