Death of Johan in confrontation
Johan, a PCP-SL leader operating in Cerro de Pasco since 1983, died in 1988 during a confrontation with the military. His death weakened the Shining Path presence in the mining sector of the region.
Johan was a PCP-SL leader operating in the Cerro de Pasco area. He had returned from Huanuco with 'Piter' to carry out violent acts in the region. Between 1983 and 1985, Johan led professors from the Daniel Alcides Carrión University in Shining Path activities, including recruitment of mining leaders and armed propaganda. In 1988, during one of the clashes between Shining Path groups and the military in the mining area of Cerro de Pasco, Johan was killed. His death represented a significant loss for the PCP-SL in the mining sector of the region.
