Rejection of Investigation into Grupo Colina by Peruvian Congress
On April 15, 1997, Fernando Olivera proposed that the Peruvian Congress establish a commission to investigate allegations made by ex-SIN agent Mesmer Carles Talledo regarding the Colina Group and its connections to the National Intelligence Service. Despite the serious nature of the accusations, the majority in Congress dismissed the motion, arguing that such investigations were the jurisdiction of the judicial system, not the legislative body.
El 15 de abril de 1997, Fernando Olivera propuso que el Congreso de la República nombrara una comisión investigadora para examinar las graves denuncias realizadas por el ex agente del SIN Mesmer Carles Talledo respecto al Grupo Colina y su relación con el Servicio de Inteligencia, incluyendo su presunta responsabilidad en el asesinato del líder sindical Pedro Huilca. La mayoría oficialista rechazó la moción, descalificando el testimonio de Talledo. El vocero oficial Daniel Espichán argumentó que tales investigaciones no correspondían al Congreso sino al Poder Judicial, rechazando la admisión a debate de la propuesta.
