Death of Simeón Auccatoma Quispe in prison
Simeón Auccatoma Quispe, a member of the Uchuraccay community arrested and tried for the 1983 massacre of journalists, died of tuberculosis in the Lurigancho prison on December 29, 1987. His sentence was declared null and void by the Supreme Court due to his death.
Simeón Auccatoma Quispe, a member of the Uchuraccay community and one of the three defendants arrested for the massacre of journalists on January 26, 1983, died in prison of tuberculosis contracted in the Lurigancho prison. During the oral trial, Auccatoma Quispe was extremely affected and submissive, bursting into tears several times begging the magistrates to believe in his innocence and to be fair. He had been arrested on July 20, 1983 and was initially sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for simple homicide on March 9, 1987. His death occurred six months before the Supreme Court issued its final judgment on June 14, 1988, which was declared null and void due to his death.
