Return of settlers to Belén de Chapi

On December 24, 1987, under the leadership of Major Miguel Seminario Ayacuchano, approximately 150 people returned to Chapi from Andahuaylas, a place that was renamed Belen de Chapi because of the Christmas celebration. This repopulation marked a change in the army's attitude towards the civilian population.

At the end of 1987, a military base was established in Chapi under the command of Major Miguel Seminario Ayacuchano, who was designated as head of the base between October and December 1987. This Major changed the attitude of the army, not allowing detainees to be beaten and gathering people from the mountains to repopulate Chapi. On December 24, 1987, before Christmas, Major Ayacuchano managed to return approximately 150 people to Chapi, a place that changed its name to Belen de Chapi because of the Christmas celebration. This repopulation marked a significant change in the military policy towards the population, achieving some pacification in the area.
