First arrest at Checcasa
The Army detained three Checcasa villagers for summoning alleged hikers to report to a military base.
A Peruvian Army patrol left the Santa Rosa Military Base to carry out an operation aimed at capturing Shining Path leaders and seizing weapons. Upon arriving at Checcasa, the military detained Jorge Sergio Ayvar Huamaní (28 years old), Magdalena Bazán Huamaní (45 years old) and Juan Esperanza Ayvar (45 years old), taking them to the Base. They were briefly released and were instructed to inform suspicious persons to report to the military base.
