On December 5, 1987, in the community of Sacsamarca, district and province of Huancavelica, the president of the Pro-Electrification Committee was assassinated by militants of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. The victim was accused of being a 'snitch' or collaborator of the forces of law and order. This assassination took place during the period of withdrawal and new subversive offensive (1986-1995) in the province of Huancavelica. During 1987, "snitches" were a favorite target of Shining Path attacks in the area.
