Víctor Acuña Cárdenas, pastor of Magdalena Parish in Huamanga, Ayacucho, and director of Caritas of Ayacucho, was murdered by elements of the PCP-SL on December 3, 1987. The assassins were identified as members of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path. This assassination was part of the selective annihilation strategy that the PCP-SL executed against local authorities, religious and community leaders during the internal armed conflict.
