Confrontation in Agua Blanca
Armed confrontation between the Peruvian Army and the MRTA in Agua Blanca on November 28, 1987, when the military forces surprised the guerrilla fighters who had returned to their camp after taking Juanjui.
After the capture of Juanjui on November 6, 1987, the MRTA returned to the same camp they had used before the attack. The Peruvian Army pursued them after the declaration of a state of emergency in the department of San Martin and the establishment of the Political-Military Command of the Huallaga Front in November 1987. The confrontation took place on November 28, 1987 when Army forces surprised MRTA fighters in Agua Blanca. This confrontation was part of the military offensive against the Tupacamarista Army of the Northeastern Front after their spectacular armed actions in October and November 1987.
