Seizure of San Martin de Alao by the MRTA
On November 9, 1987, a column of seventy MRTA members took San Martin de Alao as part of a series of town seizures in the department of San Martin.
A column of seventy MRTA members took the town of San Martin de Alao on November 9, 1987. This action was part of a series of takeovers of towns in the department of San Martin carried out by the MRTA between November 6 and 9. The column also took other towns such as Juanjui, San Jose de Sisa, Shatoja, Requena, Constanza, Sinami, Incaico Chasnahuasi and Hatunruna. These actions led the government to hand over to the Armed Forces the political-military control of the entire department of San Martin in November 1987.
