Attack on police post in Rioja

On November 7, 1987, the MRTA attacked the Rioja police post as part of its 'Tupac Amaru Vive' Military Campaign. This attack was simultaneous to the takeover of San Jose de Sisa and was part of a series of raids that led to the declaration of a state of emergency in San Martin.

On November 7, 1987, the MRTA carried out an attack on the Rioja police post as part of the 'Tupac Amaru Vive' Military Campaign. This attack took place on the same day as the takeover of San José de Sisa, where the MRTA troops arrived without firing a single shot. The attack on Rioja was part of a series of incursions and seizures carried out by the MRTA in the department of San Martin during October, November and December 1987. These military actions led the government to decree a state of emergency and a curfew in San Martin.
