The seizure of San José de Sisa occurred one day after the spectacular seizure of Juanjuí on November 6, where the MRTA managed to seize a large amount of weaponry. This incursion was part of a series of military actions carried out by the MRTA in October and November 1987 in various localities of the department of San Martin.
