Murder of authorities in Chinche Tingo

On October 16, 1987, PCP-Sendero Luminoso militants assassinated three recently elected local authorities in Chinche Tingo, Yanahuanca district, Pasco. This attack was part of the Shining Path's strategy to eliminate the system of local authorities.

On October 16, 1987, a group of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso entered the village of Chinche Tingo, where three recently elected local authorities were assassinated. This attack occurred in a context in which, after the decline of subversive actions in the highlands since 1987, the villagers had once again elected their authorities. The assassination of these authorities was part of the Shining Path's strategy to destroy the existing system of authorities and punish those who assumed positions in local government. Previously, in September 1984, the PCP-SL had already assassinated in Chinche Tingo Flavio Guzmán, professor Pablo Bustillos Loyola and villagers Florencio Loyola Esteban and Víctor Rojas, who had promoted vigilance measures against the subversives.
