MRTA raid in Tabalosos
The MRTA took the town of Tabalosos on October 8, 1987, capturing the police post without executing the captured policemen. Instead of the typical ritual of violence, they carried out a military act with flag raising and popular assembly.
On October 8, 1987, in homage to the day of Che Guevara's death, the MRTA raided the town of Tabalosos as a tribute to the peasants killed there during the 1982 strike. The town's police post was quickly taken over; of its few and surprised ten policemen, eight fled and two were captured and taken to an assembly in the town square. To the surprise of the population, there was no popular trial, nor were they killed or looted; the subversive ritual of death was replaced by a military one with flag raising and popular assembly.
