On October 2, 1987, Alberto Vera La Rosa, an APRA militant, was sworn in as Minister of Industry, Tourism, Commerce and Integration in the government of President Alan Garcia Perez. This appointment followed the resignation of Manuel Romero Caro as Minister of Industry and Tourism in September of the same year. Vera La Rosa's swearing-in took place in a political context marked by the proposal for the nationalization of the banking sector promoted by the APRA government.
