Attack on Chuquibambilla barracks

Attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the police post of Chuquibambilla, capital of the province of Grau in Apurimac, on September 12, 1987. This event was part of the escalation of Shining Path violence against APRA authorities and police posts in the department.

On September 12, 1987, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the police post in Chuquibambilla, capital of the province of Grau in Apurimac. This attack was part of an escalation of violence in the department during 1987, a period in which the authorities of the Peruvian Aprista Party became the focus of Shining Path attacks. The attack on Chuquibambilla took place in a context of a substantial increase in the number of peasants killed, takeovers and interventions in communities, and sabotage of bridges and roads in the provinces of Aymaraes, Cotabambas, Grau and, to a lesser degree, Antabamba and Abancay.
