Murders in El Montón

The PCP-SL assassinated in El Montón, Cachachi, the Lieutenant Governor, the former Justice of the Peace, a worker and his son, and shaved a teacher. The action was in retaliation for the death of Shining Path militants in Tabacal.

On August 23, 1987, a PCP-SL column entered the hamlet of El Montón, in the district of Cachachi, Cajabamba province. The Shining Path guerrillas murdered the Lieutenant Governor, the former Justice of the Peace, a local worker and his son. In addition, a teacher was shaved by the Shining Pathists as a form of punishment. This action was carried out with the slogan "Long live the heroism of July 26", in reference to the Shining Path cadres killed in the raid on Tabacal a month earlier, on July 26, 1987.
