Approval of bank nationalization bill
In July 1987, President Alan García Pérez proposed the nationalization of banking, a bill that was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in August after 23 hours of debate, generating great political controversy.
In July 1987, during his message to the country and before Congress on the occasion of the national anniversary, President Alan Garcia Perez proposed nationalizing the banking system. In August, Garcia insisted on his project to nationalize the banks during a rally called by the PAP. After 23 hours of debate, the Chamber of Deputies approved the bank nationalization bill in August 1987. This measure generated great political controversy in the country and was one of the most significant events of the APRA government.
