Aprista rally on bank nationalization
PAP rally where President Alan Garcia Perez defended his controversial bank nationalization project, a proposal he had announced in July 1987 and which generated intense national political debate.
In August 1987, the Peruvian Aprista Party (PAP) called a rally where President Alan Garcia Perez insisted on his project to nationalize the banking system. This proposal had been previously announced in July during his message to the country before the Congress on the occasion of the national anniversary. The project generated great political controversy in the country. Subsequently, after 23 hours of debate, the Chamber of Deputies approved the bank nationalization bill.
