Resignation of Police Force Directors

In June 1987, the Peruvian government accepted the resignation of the general director of the Police Forces and the senior directors of the Civil Guard and Republican Guard. This change in police leadership occurred in the midst of escalating terrorist violence in the country.

The Peruvian government accepted the resignation of the general director of the Police Forces and the senior directors of the Civil Guard (GC) and the Republican Guard (GR). This decision took place in a context of increasing political violence and terrorism in the country. The resignations were part of changes in the leadership of law enforcement during the government of Alan Garcia Perez. The event occurred in June 1987, month in which Law 24700 was also approved, establishing investigation deadlines in terrorism cases.
