On May 25, 1987, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the Pisac police post in the province of Cuzco. During the attack, Civil Guard Jaime Quispe was killed. This attack took place in the context of a series of PCP-SL offensives against various police posts in the high provinces of Cuzco during June 1987. The attack on Pisac was part of the strategy to expand subversive violence in the department of Cuzco during the period 1984-1988.
