Murder of the mayor of Shirac

The PCP-SL assassinated the mayor of Shirac, Cajabamba, on April 23, 1987, leaving propaganda in the town. This crime was part of the Shining Path's strategy of eliminating local authorities in the region.

On April 23, 1987, the PCP-SL entered the town of Shirac in the province of Cajabamba. During this raid, the Shining Pathists assassinated the local mayor. In addition to the selective assassination of the local authority, the militants left graffiti and banners in the town as part of their armed propaganda strategy. This was part of the systematic strategy of the PCP-SL to eliminate local authorities who did not collaborate with their political-military project in the northern region of Cajamarca.
