Arrests of farmers during land seizures in Ayaviri and Azángaro
300 peasants were arrested in Ayaviri and Azángaro during land seizures involving 12,000 families occupying 100,000 hectares in six provinces of Puno.
During the process of land seizures in the department of Puno, 300 peasants were arrested in the towns of Ayaviri and Azángaro. This event occurred in the context of a massive land occupation where approximately 12,000 peasant families occupied some 100,000 hectares in six provinces: Azángaro, Melgar, Carabaya, Huancané, Lampa and Puno. The arrests were part of the state's response to the peasant mobilizations that sought the democratic restructuring of land and the redistribution of the properties of the associative companies created by the agrarian reform.
