On April 19, 1987, a military convoy was ambushed on its way to the district of Huachocolpa in the province of Huancavelica. The attack was perpetrated by a column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. As a result of this armed action, ten military personnel and four civilians were killed. This was one of the largest attacks during 1987 in the province of Huancavelica, in a period of relative decline in subversive actions.
