Attack on the police post of Luchubamba

A dynamite attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the police post in Luchubamba, Sitacocha, left one policeman dead and one attacker dead. Months later, the subversive group returned to assassinate an APRA leader and attack the municipality.

In March 1987, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso dynamited the Civil Guard post of Luchubamba, in the district of Sitacocha, Cajabamba province. The attack resulted in the death of a policeman and one of the Shining Path attackers. Later, in October of the same year, a group of fifteen hikers entered Luchubamba again, but first they killed Bartolo Meza, secretary of the APRA party, on the road leading to Cushuro and Huacra. During this second incursion, the attackers took over the town, set fire to and looted the Municipality. This attack was part of the PCP-SL strategy of attacking rural police posts and eliminating local authorities in the region.
