On February 26, 1987, several high-tension towers fell in the district of Pilcomayo, province of Huancayo. This attack was perpetrated by PCP-Sendero Luminoso militants as part of their strategy of sabotaging the electrical infrastructure. The attack caused one of the innumerable blackouts suffered by the city of Huancayo during that period, leaving the population without electricity for several hours. The electric power transmission networks were a privileged and relatively easy target for the PCP-SL dynamiters in their sabotage campaign.
